There is an appealing story to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino wagering is banned. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime destination, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are apparently required to pass, there are methods around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the common tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel complex that highlights many conveniences in addition to the gambling hall, which houses 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and 88 tables.
